I received an email two nights ago from long time friends Marc and Kurt from SST Productions to shoot Tony Tanner for his performance called CHARLATAN that he will perform in Edinburgh at the Fringe this year.
It was a short notice but since I like Marc and Kurt, and their shoot ideas were fun and right up my alley, I said yes.
I had a full day today so I prepped my camera and my cards yesterday. Overnight I charged all my batteries, and this afternoon I pumped up my tires, cleared my head and rode my bike over to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery where we started to shoot at 6:30, just in time for a beautiful sunset.
Tony was exceptionally great to shoot! I was super surprised because I shot many seasoned actors and usually they are a pain, not as people but as subjects. They tend to know things better but they don’t take directions well and they don’t know their eye-line nor their light. Tony on the other hand listened, was game to anything, he knew his character and he was all in all a very pleasant person to spend the evening with.
I’m very glad that I took on this job. Not only because of the fun shoot but also because I got to see Kurt and Marc again and I got to meet Mel from England and Tony, both who inspired me with their work ethics and their passion about theatre.
